Not long now before the Aussies fresh from their World Cup triumph will be on our shores to defend the Ashes.and it could well be a bloody hard task England have in getting 'em back .. ....early odds are Aussies 5/6 England 9/4 and a drawn series 11/2.. K.R.O.

Yet again, England appear to be in the position of having to start all over again. It has been a torrid time for England in recent months, and it doesn't seem to get any easier with Australia cock-a-hoop after their World Cup triumph, and England not seeming to have a clue about what is their best side in any format of the game.
There has again been talk of separating out the different formats of the game and having a completely different set-up for Test as opposed to limited overs cricket, with different sets of coaches, different captains and different squads of players - but we tried that only a couple of years ago, and re-united the whole set-up only very recently!
It could be a long and difficult summer!

I see that M.D. Paul Downton has departed....I doubt if many will shed too many tears over that .. ...one name in the frame for the job is Michael Vaughan ...mm... K.R.O.

Get Vaughan in, now! knows the game inside out, talks a lot od sense, doesn't just make soundbytes for the media, would pick a team to win games and would encourage experimentation.
Take this series in the West Indies for example; the results should be secondary really, we should be bedding in new players and trying out new things with the Ashes being the end result. Trott opening is the first mistake. We know he's a class player so why play him now when we have Lyth waiting to have his chance? Why Tredwell when we have Rashid? And why Jordan, ever?
As far as I'm concerned playing and winning against the Aussies is all that matters. The series against the Windies and New Zealand should be preparation for that.

The first test starts this week odds for the game...England 3/1...draw 5/2..Aussies 1/1....for the series..England 4/1...draw 8/1...Aussies 4/11..mm..think the series will be pretty close, but you can understand the reason why the Aussies are favourites.. K.R.O.

Australia will be without the services of Ryan Harris, forced by injury to retire ahead of what was to be his last series anyway.

England won the toss and batted, but Lyth,Cook and Bell all went cheaply ,however Ballance and Root especially kept the scoreboard ticking over well and 88 for 3 at lunch off 23 overs, lets hope one if not both move on to a century we could do with one I feel ..!! K.R.O.

Good second session for England 190 for 3 ,taking advantage of some 'hot and cold' bowling from the Aussies !, with no interruptions the last session we should hopefully have around 330 or so with still a few wickets left ..!! Decent first day for England 343 for 7 of 88 overs taking the Aussies bowlers on really well, if we can get to around 400 then we should be in a position where we shouldn't loose it ,but can we win it ..?? Interestingly, the last time we played the Aussies in Cardiff we made 337-7 on the 1st day then went on to make 435. Australia's reply was over 600 and it took Monty and Jimmy's heroics with the bat to bail us out. If the groundsmen have prepared a similar track then our total won't be enough.
And Sid, you've spelt the word 'lose' wrong for as long as I've known you. I mean, come on..

K.R.O. Still finely balanced and as Street pointed out in 2009 the Aussies went on to get 600 + and indeed were 249 for 1 at the end of the second day , they have got to 264 today but have five down this time !!...,so maybe England might just have the upper hand slightly ..??, should be a good day three.. England's bowlers gave far too many runs away, particularly Moeen Ali and Ben Stokes, with sloppy careless deliveries as the innings wore on.
Need to get stuck into them today and bowl them out before lunch so as to maintain a decent first innings lead.

Yes ,I wouldn't think there have been too many test matches where nearly 700 runs have been scored in the first two days..!!,and Broad ...!!..his 12 overs went for 55...,still we have kept them down to under 4 an over, which they never managed, hopefully we can get a decent first innings lead and hope that there will be better contributions from Cook ,Lyth and Bell in the second innings ,and we have just grabbed the sixth wicket as well...265 for 6..
