After a quick trip down the motorway following Friday night's T20 game at Leeds, Warwickshire were soundly beaten at Notts (again!) on Saturday in the first game of the 50-over competition.
The subsequent drive down to London to take on Middlesex at Lords on Sunday proved to be a wasted journey, with the match comoletely washed out without a ball being bowled.

The Bears need to win v Essex at Chelmsford Wednesday, as they have to 'make up lost time'and they could well have their work cut out if they are to qualify for the knock-out stages ..?? K.R.O.

Essex v Bears is a day-nighter at Chelmsford, starting at 2pm.
There is live commentary via the BBC website, but main focus of attention today will undoubtedly be on Edgbaston and the pivotal Third Ashes Test!
For the record, Varun Chopra should be fit and back to lead the Bears today after Jeetan Patel's distinctly unsuccessful spell in the hot seat last weekend!

Went wrong from start to finish!
From the moment Chopra won the toss and put them in, only for them to rattle up over 300.
Batting was a complete embarrassment!
Dougie Brown needs to act quickly to halt this catastrophic slide towards oblivion.

At last a win in this competition for the Bears!
Chopra won the toss and put Lancashire in to bat with play delayed slightly on a miserable Manchester morning. Bears restricted them to 265 for 7 off their 50 overs and seemed to be cruising towards a comfortable win with a 100 partnership between Chopra and Ambrose after a lively start by Porterfield.
Ambrose was out for 59 when the score was 173 (35th over) but it still appeared a straightforward task.
But Clarke, Evans and Barker made only 27 between them, and although Chopra made 88, he had used up 133 balls in the process and had never looked comfortable as he scratched around for runs.
Barker was out at 238 for 7, meaning Warwickshire needed 28 off exactly three overs with Ateeq Javid joined by Jeetan Patel and just Hannon-Dalby and Rankin to come!
The 48th over was bowled by Tom Bailey and yielded 11 runs, so the target now was 17 off 12 balls.
Aussie James Faulkner seemed to have put Lancs in the driving seat with just 4 singles off the 49th over, leaving Bears needing 13 off the final over, entrusted to that man Bailey.
Jeetan Patel was facing and hit a 4, 2 and a single off the first 3 balls, leaving Javid with 3 balls to get 6 runs to win.
4, 4, and Warwickshire had won by 3 wickets with one ball to spare!

A second win inside 24 hours as Bears beat Glamorgan by 9 wickets.
Glamorgan won the toss and chose to bat first on the strip that was part-used at the end of last week for the Ashes Test. Eight of the Glamorgan batsmen got a start, making it into double figures, but only Bragg (45) and Meschede (23) went past 20!
Ollie Hannon-Dalby took the honours, bowling 8.4 overs and taking 5 for 27, Warwickshire's best one-day bowling analysis for 11 years! There were 3 wickets for highly promising young spinner Josh Poysden and one each for Patel and Barker. Special mention for Rikki Clarke, the most economical limited overs bowler in the country, whose 5 overs cost just 13 runs. NINE Glamorgan batsmen were out Caught. Their total was a modest 179 as they failed to use all 50 overs, bowled out in 48.4 overs.
When Warwickshire batted, as yesterday William Porterfield started the innings in bright attacking mode, making 22 out of the total of 26 when he was out played on in the 7th over. His departure brought Trott to the crease to partner Chopra, and these two put on an unbroken stand of 157 as Warwickshire totalled 183 for 1 in 38.1 overs, with Chopra finishing on 80 not out and Trott 73 no.
Next up it's Hampshire at Edgbaston on Wednesday in the presence of the Sky Sports cameras.

Today it's Hampshire at home for the Bears, and a good test of their improved form in this competition.
Hampshire, Kent, Middlesex and Warwickshire each has 5 points from 5 games, with Just Notts and Essex ahead of them in the group table, so a win for the Bears today could see them move into third place - as in the T20, the top 4 from each group go forward to the quarter-finals.
The weather could play a part today - a shame since Sky Sports are covering the game - with showers from around 6pm.

We put 'em in and they got 280 for 7 ,Sky have suggested that by putting them in maybe we had ''one eye on the weather'' !! as D/L could come into the calculations but if it don't it will be a real tough 'un and it could turn out a real bad decision ...so we will see ..! K.R.O.

Self inflicted defeat ..??...electing to bowl..??....a sloppy run out for Ambrose...??..glaring error from Trott out first ball..??,as Sky commentators said ''There could well be one or two recriminations in the dressing room after the game ''! On the face of it, it seemed another bizarre decision by Varun Chopra, after he effectively handed the game to Essex last week in similar fashion. I do wonder if the captain has total autonomy regarding such important decisions - perhaps 'the management' should be helping him to get these crucial calls right!
With four stoppages of rain, and the increasingly annoying so-called 'experts' in the Sky commentary box, it turned out to be a thoroughly frustrating evening.

The Bears wrap victory up v Sussex in the One Day Cup at Rugby School Ground ..!!..Sussex all out 217 the Bears getting home with a few overs to spare 218 for 6 ,Porterfield 100 and Javid 42 n.o., I remember in the 1960's the Bears played one or two games at (I think a firm called Courtlands ? ) cricket ground that was in Coventry and our kid told me the other day that they played a one day match at Stratford in 2005 just before England took on the Aussies at Edgbaston K.R.O.

Cortaulds, it was, Sid.
There was a game scheduled for Rugby School last season (I think it too was in the 50 over Cup) but it was rained off without a ball being bowled.

It looks very much as though Warwickshire's chance of making the top 4 and therefore a quarter-final place will be scuppered by the weather on Wednesday.
The Bears are one of 4 teams on 7 points with just Wednesday's games to play to complete the group, their problem being that they have the worst nett run rate.
..........Played...Points 1 Notts.....7.....11 2 Essex.....7.....9 3 Hampshire.7.....8 4 Kent......7.....7 5 Lancs.....7.....7 6 Middlesex.8.....7 7 Warks.....7.....7 8 Glamorgan.7.....2 9 Sussex....7.....2
In Wednesday's fixtures, Warwickshire play Kent, Notts are at home to Hants, and Lancs play Glamorgan. Middlesex are more or less out of the equation, having completed their fixtures. So Bears would be hoping to beat Kent, and for Notts to beat Hampshire or for basement boys Glamorgan to pull off a shock win at Lancashire! To have any chance at all, Warwickshire MUST play their game, and beat Kent!
Therein lies the problem - Wednesday's forecast for Birmingham shows rain non-stop from about 2pm onwards, just when the cricket is due to start!
I'm afraid if they don't qualify, it's no good blaming the weather - it's down to the way they play their cricket (The McCullum influence hasn't really rubbed off!). Add to that a couple of massive defeats in the group matches and you can see the problem with nett run rate!
